WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CMOS AND CCD?

Hello everyone, I was a time out but I have become strong and strong, always presenting articles related to audiovisual segments, on the blog of eMania you will always find a lot of information about photography, video and cinema, in today’s post I will give continuity on the image sensors of CCD cameras and CMOS, theme related to my last post? The image sensor ?, where I made an introduction to the operation of image sensors, cameras, video and cinema. question, I will present the difference between CMOS and CCD.

CCD and CMOS: A Brief Story:

  • All these sensors.
  • Both CCD and CMOS.
  • Are load coupling devices and their respective basic functions are to capture images and transform them into electrons (electromagnetic signals) and bits and bytes by means of a microprocessor in an analog-digital process that generates the image.
  • In short.
  • That’s all.
  • When television was invented.
  • Video cameras did not use CCD or CMOS.
  • Was image capture done with a single?Tube iconscope ?.
  • In 1923.
  • Vladimir Zworykin patented the iconscopic tube for television cameras.
  • Which made the existence of video and television possible.

Was the evolution of the iconoscope all? Vidicon tube? It was used in video cameras until the 1980s and the evolution of the vidicon tube was the CCD.

CCD was invented in the 1970s at Bells Labs, in several and several researches related to integrated circuits, new lasers and semiconductors that involved a micro and nanoelement system, a round trip project and an image sensor that we now know as CCDs. Sensor, born from a project carried out by physicist Willard Boyle and George Smith, which later in 1973, CCD replaced the old vidica tubes used in video cameras.

CMOS sensor technology began to be created in the 1960s and its discovery predates the creation of the first CCDs, but from the 1990s it began its journey to become the great successor to ccD.

The big difference and benefits between CCD and CMOS are

Currently, the CMOS sensor is already used in all cameras in the consumption segment, semi-professional and professional, surpassing the CCD, just as CCD has supplanted the vidicons (image tubes) previously used in video cameras. The main companies that manufacture CMOS are Sony, Kodak, Matsushita, Fuji, among others.

In the next article I will write about the different sensor sizes: APS-C, full format, etc.

I hug everyone and even more !!!!
