Weekly Challenge 67: In the City

Cities speak, I told you in this article on street photography. Buildings, transportation, parks, shops? and above all, people with a story to tell, which is what you can see if you look around in any city. And that is what we ask of you this week, to show us what is cooking in your city.

Every week I will propose a new challenge, it is a topic that you will have to capture in a photo and upload it to the Facebook page of the blog by putting in the description the keyword that I will indicate for each topic. from portraits to macro photography, landscapes, black-and-white photography, or babies. The themes will be offered on Saturday, so you have the whole weekend to work. You’ll have one week to upload your photo (one photo per participant), until Friday of the following week. Friday or Saturday I will update the article with the photo that most captivated me and propose a new theme, and so on?

  • Cities are full of life.
  • Stories to tell and that’s why this week we challenge you to show us one of those snapshots that appear for a moment and quickly tend to disappear.
  • If you want to go further before you start looking for your weekly photo.
  • I recommend you read the post I commented on at the beginning.
  • In which I will give you some tips for this type of photograph and you will also see a gallery with examples.

As usual, to take part in this week’s challenge, upload your photo to the photographer’s blog Facebook wall: In the photo description, please mention the keyword? Challenge in the city? followed by a title of your choice.

For those who are not from Facebook, I have enabled the participation of new social networks.

Good picture

This week you sent us precious moments stolen in different cities of the world: love stories, music notes that fly through the streets, glances that meet, aromas that flood the markets, buildings that shelter the passers-by under the watchful eye of the city . Thank you for your weekly effort, for the passion that you put in each of the challenges and for the love you have for this wonderful hobby that is photography, I leave you a small sample of all the repertoire that you have given us:

Perhaps I repeat myself a lot with this that it seems increasingly difficult to select an image, but it is the truth. The more photos you submit and the more experience you get, the more difficult it will be to display one image above the rest, especially when the decision is absolutely subjective. This week, I’m going to take “Thinking of You” from Xalikot. Sometimes it is not easy to explain why you choose a photo, because sometimes it is only because it takes you away from the interior. And that’s what happened to me with this image. The gesture of this woman (I suspect she is a woman, but it could well be a man) moved me from the first moment. It has a lot of strength, and sitting on a terrace not only empty, but also secluded, allows it to convey even more solitude. The black and white adds even more drama to the scene and the composition is very neat. In fact, it is a good idea to have more space at the top, as it creates a greater sense of dread. The light management is excellent and the background is blurry enough not to harm the protagonist, but enough to get a feel for this part of the city. The streets are not just a niche for happy people, they are home to many heartbreaking stories and this image captures that very well. Bravo Xalikot, it is a really moving photograph.
