Among the most varied types of camera and camcorder microphones, there are two models that confuse professionals with little knowledge in the field or beginner enthusiasts, being the models of handheld microphones and condenser.
For video, having quality sound is extremely important for production professionalism and production type, audio companies have developed specific microphones for different types of recordings.
- For artistic and commercial productions.
- Such as films.
- Commercials and recordings in general.
- The most used and recommended is the Shothgun microphone.
- For example.
- Or in professional interviews and recordings such as news.
- Interviews and documentaries.
- The best thing is the micro loop.
The handheld microphone and condenser have similar functionality, intended for musical productions, on stage such as concerts and presentation programs, but there are differences between them.
Designed for durability, the handheld microphone is more resistant to drops and shocks because it can be used in all types of environments. However, this type of microphone is not as sensitive as condenser microphones.
They usually capture direct audio, rejecting more distant sounds and this in some cases can make production difficult or not so much quality as there is not as much sensitivity in their audio capture. Still, it is arguably useful for all types of production and is generally cheaper because it doesn’t have as many tools as condenser microphones.
Capacitors capture the signal more clearly and uniformly, have more sensitivity and enrich, in the case of music recordings, production with small details and allow voice modulation in editing applications.
They are also lighter and easier to carry, however, they are less resistant than the handheld microphone. Condenser microphones are much more sensitive, as already mentioned, and therefore are not widely used in scenarios and outdoors, since depending on their position they can capture much more detail of the environment.
Another difference is food. The handheld microphone uses its own battery, which usually includes rechargeable batteries or batteries, while the capacitor needs a phantom power supply, an external power supply and continues on and running.
Isn’t there a “better” or worse model? Each of them has a different purpose, even if they are very similar and can be alternated, what really matters is to develop your knowledge and see what is the best microphone for your recording type !
