You must have been through this before. Finding a script, natural or urban, seems to come out of a dream, there is something magical about this place, so you take out your camera, prepare the lenses, adjust the exposure, take the photo with courage and the result is. just “meh”. More or less. That is not reality. So is there a secret to taking a landscape photo?
There are many things that can enhance a landscape photo, one is composition. And, in fact, composition can help any type of photography. With a few simple tips, you can change the composition of your “scene” to make the photo more dynamic.
- When taking a landscape photo.
- Try to think of it as a combination of three shots: the background.
- The center plant and the front shot.
- This allows you to create more depth in the image and generate more perspective.
- This is useful because photography is a 2D medium trying to capture a 3D world.
- If you don’t help your photo get closer to reality.
- Will it look like this? What we talked about at the opening.
The photo of the landscape above, which belongs to Scott Bourne, represents well the composition of a stage: you have the flowers in the front shot, the trees in the central shot and the mountains in the background. . Although this is a simple photograph without many effects, it generates interest. Now compare the effect of this composition with the photo below (also by Scott Bourne). Both were taken from the same story, but this one only has the mountains in the background. Can you also notice which one is the best?
Unfortunately, a landscape photo with many layers can also be problematic if you don’t use the focus function. What is most important on your stage? Where should the eyes go first? Focus on that element and let the others be? Really? part of the stage. In other words, photography is like cooking: you have the main ingredient and others that are only there to add flavor and texture. If all the ingredients have the same level of prominence, the plate will be messy.
The rest will depend a lot on your sensitivity as a photographer. Which element should be the main one? What are you going to use to create the front and center planes? since the background is usually defined by the timeline itself? At that point, you need to become the director of your own landscape photo, as we discussed in this other post: Kodak Photography Tips.
