The new Magic Cinema 50mm f/1. 1 SLR lens is about to begin distribution and a new copy of the revamped lens has just been offered to beta testers around the world. The previous prototype had serious limitations that greatly affected its performance, especially when trying. take a big opening.
In some of the tests of the new SLR Magic Cinema 50 mm f / 1. 1 performed with a prototype manufacturer about a month ago, showed these limitations. After working with the new main lens, several professional users?Among these producers, filmmakers and others? Beta testers have raised concerns with the manufacturer, including the fluidity of the image in corners when shooting with great aperture and the definition of the AF point to infinity.
Here’s what SLR Magic said after asking beta testers to wear the lens for a while and give their opinion:
After two weeks of real-world testing by several users, we received 3 main concerns.
? Smooth corners when used incessantly
? Sharpness af / 1. 1
? Reflection
We’re making changes to our ability to solve problems. New changes will improve corner sharpness to infinity by about 20%, but don’t expect perfection after changes. Sharpness in f/1. 1 is not affected. Lens magnification would be treated with an optional sunshade.
It’s encouraging to see a manufacturer take steps to improve their product after feedback from beta testers! It’s not always that this happens so fast and so vigorously.
You (like most people) may be wondering how a manufacturer can improve the optical performance of a lens in just under a month. At first I didn’t get it very well, but apparently it’s absolutely possible!I take off my hat before SLR Magic to listen to feedback from users around the world and take a break from production to improve overall lens performance, add a way to combat lens reflections at no extra cost and provide an updated product in time to celebrate the new year?
The comparisons between the lenses are quite positive and SLR Magic has certainly managed to improve its product to ensure the best possible performance. It is true that more improvements and more comparisons will come, but what we can say for now is that it will. be a good cheap lens, ideal to use in different scenarios and circumstances. Below you can see photos comparing the new lens (right) and the old lens (left).
As you can see in the photos comparing the new target with the old one, one of the main problems was the very soft corners on the left side of the lens when the shutter was completely open (the right side seemed clearer). As you can see in the photo above (which is a crop taken in the upper left corner of the image produced by the lenses), this is no longer the case. The optical performance of the SLR Magic Cinema 50 mm f / 1. 1 has been significantly improved and now corresponds to those on the right side of the lens. Note that the sharpness in the center of the lens was almost identical to that of the original prototype, which was quite good and didn’t really need many changes The sharper images are taken in F/1. 1 than those usually taken with the overall image, but above all the highest crop on the left is sharper and more detailed.
In the end, congratulations to SLR Magic!
