Sigma New Art Series Lens

Taking advantage of the wave of new announced lenses, Sigma has added another lens to its high-end series, also known as Art. This time, the new lens is a 20mm wide angle with a full picture and f/1. 4 aperture.

It is rare to find a large full-size angle at the speed of these lenses, even remotely. This sigma lens is really fast, so the fact that Sigma has reached this speed at f/1. 4 (and less than $1000) is quite the most 20mm lenses have approximately f/2 of/2. 8, and the Nikon camera produces a particularly fast 20mm af/1. 8 lens. There is not a big difference between f/1. 4 yf/1. 8, but the fact that all Art series fixed lens lenses have constant f/1. 4 apertures, is fantastic, and should fit very well with the other lenses in the series: at 24mm f/1. 4, 35mm f/1. 4 and 50mm f/1. 4. This 20 mm will be available in the following mounts: Canon EF, Nikon F and Sigma SA.

Before publishing the specifications, a few words from the company itself:

The Sigma 20mm 1. 4 DG HSM Art is a top-notch wide-angle lens, designed for a full-frame digital camera, but it also works with APS-C sensors. Wearing more than 50 years of glasses that make a difference? in particular, the knowledge gained with the 1. 4 Art 35mm and the Art 1. 4 24mm? at 20mm 1. 4 Art is the widest aperture Art lens to date. The latest optical design enables the highest image quality with a focus on edge-to-edge performance. Thanks to decades of experience designing and manufacturing the Sigma Global Vision lens, does the 20mm incorporate that many? F? Low Dispersion (FLD) glass and five special Low Dispersion (SLD) glasses in a 15-element design divided into 11 groups. The combination of advanced optics and optimized power distribution of the lens minimizes spherical aberration, axial chromatic aberration and field curvature, producing excellent image quality. With top-notch performance, this lens is ideal for landscape photography, videography, astrophotography, indoor / low-light photography, and event photography.

Although there are wider and faster lenses, these are mainly PL cinema lenses that only cover the Super 35mm and cost more than your car. If this 20 mm looks like the others in the Art series (and we hope), it will be next to the sharpest lenses. The only problem will be distortion. Once you have reached that range, keeping the lines straight will start to be quite difficult, and will probably be more of a decisive factor than speed over such a long focal length.

If Sigma completes the long end of this art line, it would be interesting to see a film version with smooth gears and irises. Right now, there’s really nothing competing with the price/feature set of the Samyang/Rokinon movie series, so I hope other manufacturers start producing lenses that have all the features filmmakers want, but won’t this completely break the bank?and provide exceptional image quality.
