Sigma 24 mm f / 1. 4, one bet

Today I come to tell you a little about my photographic equipment, in particular one of its most important parts, one of my two objectives, I can tell you the two who have fallen even more in love with me, if possible, photography. Can you imagine what they are?

Well, one is the incredible 50mm f/1. 4, which we call the king of lenses and which certainly marked a before and after, without more than in the way I photographed, in the creative possibilities it offered me.

  • The other is the Sigma 24 mm f / 1.
  • 4.
  • After spending many years alone with the 50mm (already when I was shooting analog.
  • It was my only goal).
  • I thought it would be worth giving my camera a new target.
  • Getting out of my comfort zone and feeding my creativity a little.
  • What do you know you have to feed him because if he doesn’t sleep?.

So I started figuring out what lens I needed in the kind of photography I love to do. I wanted something versatile, to accompany me on my walk as the 50mm had done until now. I also knew I wanted a fixed lens (see that I’m a little weird?), because as we use it, we do it well ;-).

Since I love documentary photography, that the landscape catches my eye, that I take many photos within my sessions and that I aim for a bombardment (night photography? Why not?), I came to the conclusion that the focal length I was looking for was 24 mm.

As for opening the diaphragm, after trying f / 1. 4, how could I not try to take out my optics with this wonderful brightness? It is true that you pay (and it is not really cheap) but the experience (wrong) taught me to wait as long as it takes to get good photographic equipment.

Someone once said that the poor man’s money was spent twice, or what is the same, it is better to buy something more expensive, but only once, than to skimp on something worse and have to buy it twice.

By that, I don’t mean that if you can’t buy this lens even with a few months of savings, there are no good alternatives to a much lower budget, but if you can and match your budget and aspirations, it won. don’t disappoint.

I’ve already advanced it a little bit in the introduction, but I’ll try to develop it a little more.

I’ve mainly told you about your versatility. Personally, I consider that as a fixed lens, the 24 mm lens gives me a perfect angle for many situations, because it is between 50 mm, which we consider to be the closest thing to the human eye, and a fisheye, which for my taste has too much angle and complicates the compositions in the type of photograph I like to do.

Its large diaphragm aperture (f/1. 4) further improves the versatility I’m talking about, as it allows me to photograph situations in very low light, maintaining more than decent speeds with a reasonably low ISO.

(You know that the secret is to learn how to play with the different parameters of the exposure triangle: aperture, shutter speed and ISO)

It is also important to note that without this great aperture it is difficult to obtain, with an angular lens, a reduced depth of field (small area focused on the image), which, as you know, gives a lot of play in photography.

I also took into account the excellent quality of its construction, its robustness and high quality glass (FLD and SLD) that eliminates at least chromatic aberrations, vignettes and distortions, its 9 diaphragm sheets (the more sheets it has, the better, especially to make the bokeh) its weight of 665gr (which although it seems very good, is very good for the objectives of these characteristics)

However, I also took into account its very good value (the canons and similar nikon are worth almost double) and the good reviews and recommendations I have read about it. And last but not least, I tried it before I bought it, weighing that, putting it on my camera, taking pictures and I just fell in love?

Beyond the advantages I can explain to you, what are your technical specifications?

Target construction

Not everything will be fulfilled, will there also be aspects that could be improved?

If you’re looking for something much cheaper and/or lighter, you might be interested in a pancake-like lens like the one we’re talking about here. It’s a little less bright but weighs very little and costs a lot less, so can it be an alternative to consider?

Since this article has many personal recommendations, I have collected some photos in different situations that I have taken for this purpose: interior, exterior, landscapes, night, high and low speed and in different diaphragm openings. I hope they help you get an idea?

Here you can explore in more detail what this objective is capable of in the hands of other photographers of all levels.

If you are interested in a good fixed angle lens, very versatile and with many possibilities in terms of photographic styles (night photography, asphotography, events, landscapes, documentary, interior, etc. ), if you are looking for a very good quality image above the comfort of a zoom or a lens with less weight can you add this objective to your wish list, because I do not think it will disappoint you?

I hope this analysis was helpful to you. If so do not hesitate to share it so that it reaches as many people as possible, thank you very much and until the next ?.
