That’s right, we’re launching a new format today. Welcome to fotoreto’s first call.
If you’re a regular at the BoF, you know we’ve always encouraged you to practice photography, whether with weekly challenges or weekly inspiration. What you are reading right now Fotoreto is the evolution of this tradition towards a new format, typical of the time.
- The concept of Fotoreto is very simple: every week I will offer you a new video photo theme.
- Sometimes I’ll show you a sample photo for inspiration.
- Other times I’ll just give you a hint or advice you can apply while doing the Photoretum.
Each time, you will have 7 days to participate in the Photoretum of the week in question. Once your photo is taken, upload it to your favorite social network (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or Flickr) with the hashtag or tag corresponding to the Fotoretum in question.
Each week, we select a winning photo. The photo author will get his favorite book from our BdF eBook library.
What better theme to inaugurate this Photoreto1 than the amazing, the magnificent, the classic that never goes out of style, the one loved by all, the black and white?Leaving aside my irrational love for this photographic genre, with this Photoretum I wanted to make a nod to the beginnings of photography. There was a time when a black-and-white camera was the newest. Compare that to the brand new DSLR you have in your drawer right now, bored to death, or even to the amazing optics of your mobile phone.
This week I want you to use your camera (or whatever you have with a lens) to create a black-and-white message, story, or emotion. Upload your photo to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or Flickr with the hashtag Fotoreto1. We will review the photos you upload.
Waiting for your picture?
The reception of this Photoreto1 is spectacular. Our new section could not have been better received. Thank you and congratulations for all the work you’ve done. We would have liked to have highlighted all the photographs worthy of their moment of glory, but this was impossible. There are so many photos that we have received that we liked that we would have reduced posts on social networks.
But we have a lot of photoretums ahead of us, so we hope you’ll continue to participate.
You’ve made it very difficult to select a single image from so many good jobs, but these are the rules of the game, so here’s this week’s photo.
It is “Among the Shadows” by Pepe Latas, a very apt image to perform in black and white, theme of this first Photoretum; and represent the lights and shadows as announced by the title. I love it for its originality, for the technique and for the message.
If we talk about technique, we can mention the composition, the way in which he used the movement to create a living forest, the use of a natural framing to give importance to the figure, the contrast between its size and the immensity of the forest or the lines that bring dynamism.
As for the message, I’m sure everyone will interpret it their own way, I maintain that we all have our shadows and our lights, inside, but also around us. We live in a constant search for the balance between blacks and whites, between shadows and lights. And I also maintain that at the end of all darkness there is always light. Always, congratulations Pepe.
See you tomorrow at Fotoreto2, you can’t miss it!
