I met the photograph of newborns at a conference given by photographer Rita Rodrigues about three years ago, fell madly in love and discovered what I wanted to do, in photography, for the rest of my life.
In my opinion, passion is the basis of the success of what you do, everything that is done with love and dedication has everything to function.
- Newborn photography.
- Which is relatively new here in Brazil.
- Has boomed in recent years and has more and more followers every day.
Many photographers look for information to enter this market, many see this field of photography as a great opportunity, after all it is a growing market.
The question here is: among those who embark on newborn photography, how many are left and thrive?, how many photographers and how many? Are photographers in this field for love and dedication?
Understand the dedication, the search for knowledge in photography (general), the functioning of the anatomy and physiology of the newborn and the particularities of newborn photography, the correct application of techniques and most importantly, the care and safety of the newborn. Newborn.
I receive many emails, with doubts from colleagues, who want to start working with newborn photography, the curious thing, if not alarming, is that in most of these emails what I see is an endless search for suppliers of accessories, caps and blankets . All you want to know is where to buy this basket or photo backdrop. Many people are not interested in finding technical knowledge. That worries me a lot!
You, my friend, have in your hands a small fragile being, who has just arrived in the world, does not have many defenses, only leaves a perfect, comfortable and safe environment and is now in your hands. Respect it first, and first and foremos s.
The main problem with newborn photography is the safety of the newborn. Every effort should be made to provide comfort and safety to the baby.
You should clean the studio, or the place of the session, as well as all the accessories and accessories used, as well as take care of your personal toilet. Hands disinfected with alcohol gel, cut nails and glued hair.
The room temperature must be controlled, between 28 and 30 degrees. Whenever the baby shows hot or cold, this temperature should be regulated. Have a heater, humidifier, and thermometer at your workplace.
Baskets and accessories must be made of materials that are safe for infants, never use glass or ceramics. Try using baskets with wide bases, to give the baby more stability, put a little weight on the bottom of the basket to give it more stability.
In case of illness of the photographer or the person in his life, the session must be postponed.
Try to try between 6 and 15 days of the baby’s life, because at this stage, newborns are more flexible, sleep soundly and do not suffer from colic.
The baby must be well fed before starting the session. Ask the mother to breastfeed a few minutes before. A well-fed baby is a happy baby.
Babies have various reflexes that can wake you up during the session, always have an assistant nearby and watch the baby, as a sudden movement, caused by these reflexes, can surprise and knock him down.
Study your baby’s physiology and anatomy. Learn how to place it correctly. Practice first with a doll. Make whatever move you want with the baby inside you. A poorly executed pose can harm the newborn.
Most poses are the product of merging images in Photoshop, don’t try to replicate everything you see on social media, as this can be dangerous for the newborn.
Start with the simplest poses. With the time and experience gained, thanks to a lot of studies and practice, you will naturally evolve into more complex poses.
I can say that 70% of the neonatal test is performed in the puff, the accessory is suitable and safe for the baby, with a change of blankets and some accessories you get a range of images of the baby, without having to move it much.
For beginners the ideal is to learn these four basic postures and train a lot, blankets, hats, scarves and head ribbons will suffice for a good result and very different images.
In this position, it is important to cross the baby’s legs against his belly, then place it on the mouth, face down, one of the handymen is placed under the face, this hand will support his little head. Keep the little finger open, be careful with the other arm, which should be next to the baby (not below).
Towels or blankets should be placed under the blanket to hold the head.
Slowly advance the buttock arrow so that the elbows are fastened to the knees.
Pay attention to the right arm and its correct position
Starting with the posture of the buttocks in the lateral posture, small movements in the baby ensure their comfort and a smooth transition. Keep the small arm to the right (pictured above) the right hand-hander’s movement and carry it on the same side as the other. Turn the baby to one side (diagonally). You can use wrappers for a variation of images.
You can hold the two small hands together under the face, palm to palm, or do as shown in the image below (small pose).
In this posture, small hands are placed on top of each other, to hold the baby’s head. Elbows should be supported by towels or rollers placed under blankets.
After learning these four basic positions and practicing a lot, you can play the same positions on tracks, baskets and other accessories.
You can shoot with your parents and siblings, which adds a lot of value to your shoot.
Also photograph your baby’s details, such as eyelashes, lips, hands, feet.
Record expressions: smiles, yawns, enraging,?
