Do you suffer from any of those photographic dilemmas?

If you haven’t been through any of these dilemmas, it’s because you just started photographing so recently that you’re still making a little hole. The dilemmas I present below will eventually catch you sooner or later. Enjoy some time in this world, you already have a photograph tattooed on your heart and / or in your brain, you will agree with me, surely you have suffered more than one. If you want to know what I mean, read on.

The eternal dilemma, like when we were little they asked us, strawberry or chocolate? Batman or Superman? Dad or mom? Well, almost the last? And, although there are fans of both brands, the truth is that neither of them is better than the other. Also, these aren’t even the only brands to consider when buying a camera. because Fujifilm, Pentax, Olympus or Sony, for example, also have excellent cameras on the market.

  • What happens is that in the end we can feel emotions and just as the colors of a football shirt feel.
  • We can end up feeling the “colors” of a photographic mark.
  • So be Nikoista or Canonist.
  • (or photographer).
  • Mario declares himself a lost Nikoist.
  • For now I am from Canon.
  • Although by chance and I do not lose as many colors as he does.
  • Do I confess that I suffer this dilemma for a long time and that I was very tempted to move to the other side?(I don’t brazen it for the future either).

What about you? Have you been through this dilemma?

This is usually a dilemma if you don’t know the programs or only know one, when you’ve tried both you realize how complementary they can be, or that one is no better than the other, but they cover different needs. the pros and cons of each, click here. But if you don’t have too much time now, I’ll sum it up;).

Photoshop is a much more complex program when it comes to editing and retouching an image, offers many more possibilities, although it also requires more time and more learning, Hightroom is more focused on the work of the photographer and, in addition to offering a simple and intuitive editing, facilitates the task of revealing, tagging and everything that has to do with the organization of photos , although it has a much more limited touch-up.

If you find yourself in this dilemma, ask yourself what you need, or if you want to combine them;).

What is the best natural light or artificial light?Have you ever had to decide to use one or the other?Although I’m not a lost Nikoist like Mario, I’m a naturalist lost in the light. For me, there’s nothing like natural light. Its beauty is second to none. The nuances of natural light are incomparable with artificial light, no, they cannot be compared. Does this mean I’m closing the door on artificial light? No, just as I can swim in a pool, and until I enjoy it, being in love with the sea, I can see the benefits of artificial light and times. when it is necessary I also do not forget their creative uses.

If the benefits of natural light are related to its beauty and its multiple shades, those of artificial light have to do with the control that can be had over it. With the first one, you can only adapt to what you have, find it, enjoy it or wait for it. With the second, you decide, where, how much, when and how.

I must admit that hard light has a very bad reputation and that the balance tends to overturn dim light, this happens because a large part of photography enthusiasts do not know its benefits, you will find a lot of information on how to get a diffuse light. light or even how to avoid the hardest light. However, it is difficult to find elements that help you appreciate this type of light, discover its beauty and know how to use it.

Fortunately for you, we published this blog post, and even a specific article about hard light in portraits, is one better than the other? For no reason. There is no better light, but a light adapted to every moment, to every feeling you want to transmit, use a hard light to provoke more aggressive emotions, to get more dramatic photos, on the contrary, look for a diffuse light when your idea is closer to tenderness, softness or calm.

Although the sunrise and sunset are very similar in terms of the type of light they offer (in reverse order) and may seem almost identical, the truth is that there are nuances that make them very different. Benefits of sunrise? The calm of the environment, the tranquility of the animals, the dew on the plants, each time you have more light, etc. Disadvantages? We’re not all made of the same pasta, for example I’m one of those people who gets a fever, gets up early, hurts and hurts that way, but what am I going to do?Well, keep the sunset.

Benefits of sunset Well, the sky is richer in shades at sunset than at sunrise, that after sunset comes blue hour, you can have a mojito while taking photos (coffee is very tasty but not the same?), There is more life, noise, people, awake animals, friends willing to accompany you, etc. Disadvantages? Well, those same, noise, people, animals and insects too awake when what you’re looking for is quite the opposite ?.

Ask yourself what you are looking for and you will have the answer: coffee or mojito ?.

Ainss, how many people have fallen into the Full Frame trap. First of all, in case you don’t know what the title says, I’ll tell you. To be clear, without technical details, it would be that Full Frame cameras are the cameras with the largest or most complete sensor (35 mm) and the APS-C are the ones that have a smaller sensor or trimmed.

Is it bigger and more expensive ever better? Not necessarily. Although a full-frame sensor captures much more light, its price, both on camera and lenses, is much higher and not always worth it, as well as you wouldn’t buy a personal van or a Porsche with a new license. and moving your legs just thinking about getting behind the wheel first, there’s no need to make a super-economical investment if you’re still learning and still don’t light up with the triangle of light or don’t have a clear focal length.

And speaking of focal length, it can also help us in this dilemma, depending on the type of photos you usually take, one type of format or another may be more convenient for you, due to the conversion factor a telephoto lens is more telephoto in an APS- C than in an FX (full frame). In other words, if your trick is photographing birds, with an APS-C, a 300mm lens can turn into a 450 or 480mm lens. camera, it would still be 300mm.

On the contrary, if your trick is to cover large scenes with a wide angle, you are even more interested in a Full Frame, because a 10mm will never be a 10mm but a 15 or a 16mm depending on the model or brand of the camera. As you’ll see, in this case the difference doesn’t seem as big as in the long focal points but it’s all about tastes and needs.

Those of us who have been tempted by the king of lenses, there has also been the inevitable doubt as to whether it is really worth paying more for the king with the prince (f/1. 8). Looks like f/1. 4 af/1. 8 the difference is minimal, right?, but that’s not the case. It’s much more than we see. The f/1. 4 is brighter, has a more attractive bokeh (blur), better construction and better focus speed; on the contrary, the f/1. 8 has a better value for money. Is it better to sue the prince if you can’t pay the king, even if you can?Mario wouldn’t even tell you to think about it?

It is another dilemma, somewhat less well known but which also usually stalks the head of more than one, here come into play conditions such as the conversion factor, because, for example, 50 mm in an APS-C as mine becomes 75 mm. , the difference is important. If you want a closer view to 50mm with an APS-C, it’s better to think of a 35mm one, now keep in mind that blur is not the same.

Then the story tells the tastes. Here you can see life in 50 mm and here in 35 mm. I leave you a photo taken with a 50mm f / 1. 8 and a camera (Canon) APS-C (and with diffuse natural light?).

On the photographer’s blog we gave you 7 reasons not to use Photoshop and 7 others not to use it, and when I talk about Photoshop I usually talk about photo editors, some people may not post a photo of you or show it without first going past an editorial, others seem to have a fatal allergy. I believe, in my humble opinion, that it is one more tool that can be used with mesura, that offers great possibilities but which should not be abused. taken on camera, although there are also some adjustments that they used to make in the lab and in the digital age we have to do them, so let’s put aside phobias and abuses and use them to the right extent;).

A few months ago I opened the debate about whether mobile photography was photography or not, noting that any mobile photography does not have to be good (and a photograph taken with an SLR neither), I consider that the important thing is not the tool, but that it takes the photo, its sensitivity and good photographic work and what will be able to be transmitted. And I strongly support mobile photography because, among other things, it’s much more accessible.

For example, I put this image, one of my favorites that I’ve been taking lately, it may not be a GREAT photo, but I like it very much, and it wouldn’t exist if he hadn’t worn his cell phone. phone while I wait for the doctor. Because no, I’m not going everywhere with the SLR. I already have enough to “carry” a small koala to also carry the camera at all times;).

Another old debate is the type of lens, if it is better a fixed lens or a variable focal length, I will not make a great discovery if I tell you that in one premium quality and in the other versatility. you can’t say that one is better than the other, but that for you one or the other will adapt more to your needs, if you are looking for quality, sharpness, light, you will probably have to look for a fixed lens.

On the contrary, if you need to mostly cover different focal lengths, and you don’t want to change your lens, you’ll probably have to think of one with zoom.

After reading these eleven dilemmas with which you will surely have identified to a lesser or greater extent, you will agree with me that life is neither black nor white, but there is a whole PANTONE catalogue to enjoy;).

And now I’d like to ask you two favors, the first is to tell us if you’ve suffered any of these dilemmas and what your final decision was (if you made it). Secondly, if you share this article on your favorite social network, just like a newcomer, can we clear up ideas and save you a warm-up?You can appreciate life, photography too.

Thank you for sharing these little photographic dilemmas with me. Soon.
