In October, Canon will begin shipping its new Canon camera. This camera, the C300 Mark II, is perhaps one of Canon’s most anticipated camera releases in several years. The wait is long, as Canon announced the C300 Mark II camera some time ago and showed what it could do in very interesting videos.
Although we already have some basic information about the C300 Mark II (obtained from the original announcement made at NAB this year, in addition to the rumors we hear in the film industry as a whole), much remains to be learned about the camera in terms of how the new technology being implemented will benefit filmmakers and photographers. And perhaps the most important question is: will the C300 Mark II have an impact on the industry in the same way as its predecessor, the original C300?The best in the industry, the original C300 has become one of the most popular professional cameras of recent times, thanks to a combination of reliability, ease of use, low lighting capacity and, most importantly, image quality. Will Mark II live up to this legacy?
- To help answer this question (and many more).
- The folks at Zacuto invited Jon Sagud from Canon to speak in depth about the new camera.
- Of course.
- The video also shows other next-gen Zacuto rigs and the EVF board.
- But the most important information Jon provided relates to all kinds of technical aspects and how the C300 Mark II has been redesigned based on everyone.
- Feedback received by Canon in recent years.
- Here is a brief sample of the topics covered in this conversation:.
How users can change the camera lens holder (tip: send to Canon) How dual pixel autofocus works and why it is ideal for images that have a one man army Many small ergonomic improvements (but no negligible) performed in the camera How the Digic dv5 Dual Processor Works Raises Camera Sensitivity to New Levels How do you manage to be the camera? to meet ACES and Rec 2020 color standards
And much more
Let’s move on to the movie. Of course, some of us have seen Tricky Shot, a promotional short film premiered at NAB that was shot entirely on the C300 Mark II, however this film had extreme gradation that greatly influenced the final result of the video. It came from an older version of the camera, so it couldn’t have been particularly representative of what to expect from the C300 Mark II when distribution begins in October. However, in recent weeks, Canon has put pre-production versions of the camera in the hands of some filmmakers, and the images they have taken and uploaded to the web are quite promising.
In the end, and overall, the C300 Mark II looks more and more promising as we get closer to the start of distribution. Like its predecessor, the Canon C300 Mark II lacks the most impressive features and impressive technology, but it seems safe. That the Canon C300 Mark II will be warmly adopted by the same professionals who previously adopted the original Canon C300. There is still time before distribution begins and if we have more information or news, you can be sure we will talk more about the new C300 Mark II.
