The cold appears and nothing better than coming home from work or waiting for the weekend to see a good movie under the sheets, right? On second thought, this month we’re making a special of the best photographic films ever released. Let’s talk a little bit about the documentary The September Issue, by Oscar-nominated director RJ Cluter, who is also a television producer.
The September issue shows the process of producing the September issue of Vogue magazine, traditionally the month is the most important for fashion magazines in the United States: the editions are bigger and attract more advertisers. The documentary shows the effort of the entire magazine team to launch the most long-awaited fashion publication of the year.
- The film focuses mainly on the magazine’s famous editor-in-chief.
- Anna Wintour.
- As well as photographers and stylists who help in the process of creating the publication.
- Grace Coddington.
- A former model turned artistic director of vogue.
- Is also in the spotlight.
For lovers of fashion photography or interested in following the path, this documentary is essential, as during the film appear great photographers: Patrick Demarchelier, Steven Klein, Craig McDean, Mario Testino and David Sims, only the big names in the industry.
It is very interesting to note in the film the paradoxical differences between Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief, and Grace Coddington, artistic director, both are opposite in several respects: in their personal styles and in the way they work for the magazine. While Wintour is hard and a little cold, Coddington is romantic and very friendly.
These personalities assist in the entire production of the magazine with photographers, stylists and models. The September edition is a good choice for anyone who wants to be part of this universe. During the documentary it is very clear that the work is taken very seriously, as in any other journalistic or photographic publication.
In addition to effort and creativity, the film shows all aspects of the creative process: the bad and the good. In addition to the message that all great work requires effort, seriousness and MUCH dedication.
