5 key issues when buying a camera

Buying a camera is a real headache, isn’t it, and it’s not that you don’t know, I assure you, even knowing something about the cameras, the final decision arouses anxiety in anyone who dares to try to take this step.

There are several reasons, mainly because there are many models, brands and types of cameras, the second reason is that we do not know each other well or that we are not entirely honest with ourselves, what do I mean? Well, generally we promise, we are excited and we believe that we will go much further, that we will do this and that, that we need the best, the most expensive, the heaviest and the most professional camera because we are sure we will enjoy it. do.

  • But the truth is.
  • The more wrong you are about it.
  • The less you’ll get out of your purchase.
  • If your user profile is that of a compact camera.
  • Which likes to carry the camera in the pants pocket.
  • The built-in zoom is enough and more than enough.
  • And you buy a spectacular SLR.
  • I predict that the photos are finished.
  • You will take it one or two days and on the third day the laziness of carrying it will be greater than your passion for photography.
  • Goodbye photos.

This is the first question you need to answer and it will define the type of camera you should focus your search on, if you think about it, simply answering this question thoughtfully and honestly will significantly narrow down the available options. in the market and you can focus your research much more.

For example, let’s look at the difference between someone who wants to take street photography and someone who wants to work in sports.

Streetphotography: First you need a camera that is light, discreet and quiet, where probably a folding and/or touch screen can be useful. An EVIL or advanced compact would be the most appropriate camera profile for this type of photography.

Sport: You need a fast camera to focus and shoot in bursts, with a robust image stabilizer, to which you can surely place a telephoto lens. A DSLR is probably the best choice.

Normally we are surprised and driven by the madness of buying the camera that offers us the most megapixels on the market, being willing to pay atrocities to have a few more, but the truth is that we are at a more than adequate level of quality in any of the current cameras . . . 12 or 16 MP, we have more than enough, imagine. So, unless you want extensions like a building wallpaper, the MP increase will only affect a larger resulting file size, which, in my own experience, is terrible.

On the other hand, the size of the sensor is important and decisive. The higher this, the higher the resulting image quality, which is what we’ll notice mainly when we go out?Normal? and should we, for example, increase the ISO, work with too little or too much light, or we want to crop the image, etc.

We always insist that, usually, the least important thing about photographic equipment is the camera, however strange it may seem, and as long as the basics that each needs according to our photographer profile, with a very simple body and good optics are respected, our equipment is completely transformed. If you don’t believe me, try asking the King for goals to prove it. Or the prince. You’re going to hallucinate. Word.

So almost more important than the camera when choosing a camera (as seems strange, I know), is that you check the compatibility and range of lenses and accessories it has, this can make you choose one type or another, and even for one. brand or other The offer and variety of these are fundamental. There are cameras that can be very good but have a limited number of lenses or that are very expensive, so that’s a point to consider.

I know with the motivation and the? Tall? That it gives us the option to buy a new camera seems unimportant. You might think that it does not matter, that you will always carry it with you regardless of its weight, it adapts instead. If you’ve ever owned a first camera and opted for the second or third, you may have already realized that this is not the case ;-). But if it is the first time, I assure you that a mistake in this aspect can mean the difference between taking pictures or not taking them.

So, going back to the introduction, first remember what you want the camera for and what kind of photographer you are. I know a lot of people who are crazy about photography and can’t bear the weight and others, like me, who can’t find weight a problem. Fortunately, today there are excellent cameras for all profiles.

Because? Only rarely is there an abysmal leap between one model or another in terms of quality or features, but there may be abysmal jumps in the price of both, so take a closer look at the features of both before you start buying the latest model. I would almost never recommend it, I would always go one or two models below the last one. The quality will be very similar and you will save a lot of money that you can invest in a good lens.

I’ll give you an example. The other day I analyzed this fantastic EVIL (no mirror), the Sony A6000, which is on Amazon for 342. 15 euros and is a real marvel. It has two top models, the Sony A6300 that is worth 1,044. 01 euros and the Sony A6500 that you can find for 1,549. 00 euros.

I guess the price jump from one model to another hasn’t gone unnoticed. Notice the differences between the A6000 and the A63000 (think one doubles the price of the other) Would it make up for it?Just in case you need to shoot movies at high speed, don’t you?

Recommendation: Use Snapsort to make comparisons (screenshot above) whenever you have doubts between the features of one model or another, this will be very useful.

No matter how good a seller is, let’s not kid ourselves, they want to sell and we don’t always explain ourselves well enough or we don’t understand each other enough to get what we’re looking for. Informed or overconfidetic, we ended up buying something that wasn’t exactly what we needed, so my advice is: do your homework before you go to a photography store or before you click to shop on Amazon or wherever you shop online (beware of that, there are many websites that promise bargains and are a fiasco).

And for me, the last step in deciding is what others who, before me, had the camera and had the opportunity to test it. You agree with me? Is there a mistake that makes this camera not suitable for me? Does CA work fine? Is that what the brand promises? Explore (without obsessing, please) what other users are raising and draw your own conclusions. The criticism they give you may not affect you in the least, or it may make you change your plans completely ;-).

I know that buying a camera is an exciting but exasperating task, I hope that these home tricks because, like you, I have gone through this situation, help you buy your equipment, remember that the best of photography is not the camera, nor even the goal, you are yourself. So whatever your decision, enjoy it, press it, practice it, give us your photos, share your passion for photography and, most importantly, have fun. Oh, and if you found it helpful, feel free to share it on your favorite social network. Thank you and soon :-).
