3-point lighting for those who do not know it is the main basis of the lighting of a scene, it is a basic lighting technique where 3 light sources are used to illuminate one person or object, one is the main light and the other two are secondary lights designed to model the image, creating the desired atmosphere. The ultimate goal is to make lighting as natural as possible, and it is not possible for those who observe the scene to individually perceive one of the 3 lights used.of these lights reinforces, among other things, the feeling of depth: the image no longer appears uniformly illuminated (light?Flat?) to gain volume. One is the main light (main lighting) and the other two are secondary lights designed to model the image, extra light and backlight.Let’s get to know these 3 basic lights:
The main light (Key Light or front) in a 3-point lighting system is the most important light of the three, located in front of the person to be recorded, defines the basic lighting of the scene, usually a direct light and concentrated light (called hard or hard light), causing individually (only when illuminated) shadows pronounced on the face of the person; however, it can also be diffuse, scattered (called dim or soft light), which produces almost no shadows.it is obtained directly from the reflector, while soft light is obtained with the use of softened devices such as the diffuser, placed in front of the reflector, or the use of a light box.
- The extra light (additional or lateral lighting) in a 3-point lighting system.
- Is the light that is next to the engraved person.
- Its fundamental objective is to soften the shadows that cause in the face of the person (eyes.
- Nose and neck) the main light and to fill the gaps that cause these shadows.
- Hence their name.
- The filling.
- To achieve this effect.
- The extra light is generally wider.
- Softer and more diffuse than the main light.
Backlighting in a 3-point lighting system is the light behind the engraved person, its fundamental goal is to model the person’s face, highlight it from background to bottom and highlight the distance from the background. After positioning the main light, the backlight is fixed diametrically to the contrary.
In the next post, I’ll write about the reflectors and their respective lamps.
Hug everyone!
