I don’t know if you’ll need these images to fall in love with backlighting or if you’re already madly in love with this kind of light ;-). If that’s the case, you’re not the only one, I admit I love it.
A while ago I went through the escape phase as if it were a fatal disease and now the truth is that I am crazy about the possibilities offered by the backlight photography.
- The flashes.
- The silhouettes.
- The light profiles.
- See how the textures come out.
- Or how the light spreads through the sensor.
- Sometimes uncontrollably.
- Fascinates me :-).
- Because when we think of backlights.
- We tend to think of silhouettes.
- But there are many more possibilities.
Dominating light and measurement types a bit (the spot is ideal for this type of photography with such a high dynamic range), you can get images like the ones I show you below.
Open your eyes wide, breathe and watch. One of these photographs could be yours. Be sure?.
As you’ve seen in previous images, there are many ways to play with backlighting and with very different results depending on the area where you decide to expose your image and the difference in brightness between the brightest and darkest areas.
If you decide, for example, to prioritize the brightest area of the scene and expose so that the light source is properly exposed, everything you place in front of that light source will be dark or completely black (always depending on the difference between shadows and lights). Silhouettes are certainly a very interesting formal resource to add to some of your images.
If you decide you prefer to display so that what’s in front of the light source is well exposed, you’ll probably have an overexposed background. The smaller the light difference between lighter and darker areas, the more game you’ll have to try. all those backlights that aren’t silhouettes.
That’s why sunrises and sunsets are ideal for training with the backlight, the soft, lateral and warm light it gives us, allows us to play with backlight images with many more possibilities.
If you want to know how many backlight possibilities can be known, I recommend combining inspiration with a funny theory about backlight reading this article.
I hope you liked these images, but above all I hope that you have been given a huge desire to go out photographing past times, that you feel like creativity and desire flow through your veins and that in short, you take your camera and put practice like crazy. Oh, and if you have time, before you leave, like it, share it on your favorite social network or explain it to a friend to reach as many photographers as possible. Thank you and see you next time.
