129 photographs showing the strength of cinematography.

Gregg Toland, Gordon Willis, Kazuo Miyagawa, Chivo Lubezki, Roger Deakins, Robert Yeoman, Reed Morano?and many other filmmakers who have transformed cinema into something much more than just a sequence of images. What we see in the works of these great artists is much more than a beautiful image. It’s about transposing realities and creating links that wouldn’t have been created before. It takes us beyond what we expected. Create a new world to enjoy.

Thinking about the magnificent work that many filmmakers, as in this list above, make art with their cameras in hand, Buzzfeed has compiled some images that will inspire even the most reluctant viewers. The list is a bit long and you can’t even start putting all the images in this post. But if you want to see and marvel at some iconic scenes, head to Buzzfeed’s website.

  • The work of these filmmakers is brilliant.
  • Powerful.
  • Inspired.
  • And often thankless.
  • Like so many others.
  • They got used to taking the skeleton from a movie and dressing it in dazzling aesthetic energy.
  • They took the light and put it in various ways never seen before.
  • They took a lens.
  • And captured not only stunning images.
  • But also our imagination.
  • Above all.
  • They managed to capture in an image what few people would achieve with millions of words.

Of course, your achievement is at least memorable and brilliant, so I think a celebration is in order, right? Some of these images are historical and some less well-known, but they all have the power to captivate and delight those who watch the movies.

Making films is a collective process and many times the work of some professionals is left in the shadow or forgotten by other artists and names, sometimes you forget the names of certain actors and you almost always see them on the screen, now imagine someone who does not it does. He doesn’t even appear on screen and hardly ever repeats his name. Little chance of remembering it.

Those behind the camera usually don’t have many projectors, so Buzzfeed, in a rare and special way, has shared a fantastic (albeit limited) collection of 129 iconic photos from some of the best motion pictures in the movies. They will help you do just that, remembering the great beauty and importance of specialized cinematography. Here are some of our favorites on the list:

Like I said, the list is endless; there is not enough time in the world to put all the images together in a single presentation without leaving us virtually ecstatic (Gregg Toland’s work in particular leaves me breathless and very excited).

However, this collection of images reminds us how beautiful an image can be, but more than that, the impact that lighting and composition can have on a film’s narrative. Would this iconic scene of citizen Kane’s deep approach make so much sense if Gregg Toland decided to limit his depth of field?Would we continue to talk about the success and innovation of Rear Window if Robert Burks decided to take a more conventional approach rather than immerse the public through POV shots?

Images are definitely the lifeblood of cinema, so be sure to take a look at the rest of the images on the list. Try to celebrate them! Study them! If you can print them out and attach them to a mural for future reference, it will definitely help.

What movie images do you think should be on the list? What job as a filmmaker inspired you to become a cinematographer? If you can, leave your story and opinion in the comments!
